Summary: Bobby and Kitty are tasked to help a mutant.

Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house...
Not a mutant was stirring, not even a Mouse...
At least at Xavier's...

The plans had been made.

The kitchen had been...well, destroyed.

Bobby had performed his duty as watchman, making sure all the kids who were staying at Xavier's for the holidays were in bed, and were at least not causing trouble.

And Kitty? She'd spent a few hours cleaning up the mess she'd left the living room after an epic long raiding night, and then cooking dinner for Bobby. They were to spend the night together watching whatever movies Bobby brought. That had been the plans. Kitty would provide the space and the food, Bobby would provide the entertainment - both movie and personal. They'd agreed to have a late dinner, so Bobby could go on rounds for the kids, and make sure everyone was good. That let Rahne and Scott have the night with their families. Even Logan wasn't around; Kitty hoped he was with Jet.

She was....having more trouble with today than she expected. When she'd packed her father's house, she'd found her Hanukkah presents. While yes, her family was Jewish, she'd practiced the secular holiday of Christmas for as long as she could remember. She even had a little tree. It was a table tree, but it was lit, and the colorful lights made her happy. Even now, looking at the lights made her smile; looking at the presents made her sad. She missed her Dad; she read the first holidays were the worst - which was why she'd saved the presents until Bobby arrived. That way she could cry, and he'd hold her, and he'd make her laugh, and then they'd eat, watch a movie, maybe fall asleep on the couch together like two old people. Those were happy thoughts. She'd even worn a Christmas funny shirt: It was green and declared : What happens at the Christmas Party, Stays at the Christmas party.

When Bobby knocked, she opened the door, declaring, "Merry Christmas Eve!!!:" She was wearing jeans and her funny T-shirt. The room smelled like food, and there was a table set with a tiny tree, candles and the food already prepared....

And that's when the call came in.

Apparently, there was a mutant that was manifesting an hour or so away. The young kid was scared, and was psychic..but that was all the information they had. Oh, and an address. Since Kitty and Bobby didn't have family (besides each other), and honestly? They were two of the least threatening of the X-Men, they'd been very kindly asked if they'd be willing to deal with this situation.

His name was James.

Kitty said of course they would, and hung up.

"Well, I suppose we can take the food to go...or I can box it up for later....We have our very own mission together.." She stuck out her tongue. "Are you going to be able to deal with me in the car for an hour.." Oh, of course Bobby would be able to...but Kitty was being overtly bright because...well, she wasn't feeling as Kitty as she normally did. Her hugs were a bit tighter. Her laughter a little bit forced. She was honestly glad to be given a job to do...and to do it with Bobby.

X-Men
There was no real surprise that despite it being a holiday, the X-Men didn't get an entirely uneventful one, that was just part and parcel of being a hero. Emotions had a tendency to run high for teenagers and pre-teens during the holidays, family feuds, arguments, all the sorts of normal angst which was fine for humans, but for mutant kids? That was how you got manifestation events. Which was when Cerebro picked it up and the X-Men were scrambled to respond, this time it was just going to be Kitty and Bobby doing the answering.

"Box it up for later, you won't get to eat it otherwise." Kitty had spent a long time cooking for tonight, so there was no point in boxing it for Kitty to only end up throwing hers away. "We'll only be gone a few hours max right? We can just have midnight dinner instead of midnight mass." Not that Bobby was ever religious enough to actually go to anything like midnight mass, Bobby was raised in a non-religious family his mother was Jewish and his father was Catholic which meant that they went with what they wanted to do rather than what the churches told them to do.

Bobby was wearing traditional Christmas get up if you lived somewhere like Australia or Florida - a pair of bright red board shorts, and a grey t-shirt with a print of Darth Vader's helmet with a Santa's hat on. It wasn't hard to spot that Kitty wasn't quite her usual Kitty self, Bobby knew Kitty well enough to tell when she wasn't alright, though so far he hadn't poked at that bear. Not because he hadn't wanted to, but because he didn't want to upset Kitty during the holidays.

"Shotgun passenger seat." Bobby grinned at Kitty, which meant that she was going to be the one doing the driving. Opening the apartment door he held it open for Kitty and then shut it behind them once they were out.

It didn't take too long to get to Kitty's car and hit the road. "What music do you feel like today?" Bobby looked over his phone at the various playlists he had, there was a broad eclectic taste, with a little something for everyone. "I could just go for the bad Christmas song playlist," He looked across at Kitty then, "But please no singing," He teased adjusting his position on the seat so that he was a little more comfortable.

Kitty wasn't surprised that she and Bobby got picked. They didn't have families. They were still awake. They were friends, and friendly. She was, however, sad that her dinner might go to waste.

She nodded, opting to just put seran wrap over the plates and to...put them in the fridge. The candles were blown out as she offered cheerfully, "You might want to put some pants on. If we're showing up to help, we want them to take us seriously...." She refrained from making ANY sort of comments about keeping Frosty and so forth. They were going to be in a car, together, for an hour...God help her soul.

"Right...you head to Midnight mass.." She sounded amused. "More like Midnight Madness. Do I even want to know what movie you picked? Please don't tell me it's zombie strippers, or something silly like that...." The food was away and she turned around. "What? You're still in those clothes?"

And of course he called shot gun. With a snort, she grabbed the keys to her very functional car. "Okay, Okay...but Drive picks the music; shotgun shut his pie hole..." Yes, she was quoting a TV show. Sue her. She'd had a few days free and wanted to keep her mind off of reality...and now she had a Bobby - so reality was far away.

Once they were in the car, Kitty once again giggled at Bobby's playing around. "Umm...I think you should find traditional Jewish holiday songs...." She waited a beat, and for a reaction before grinning stupidly. "It's Christmas Eve; do you have any Abney Park?" While at MIT, she'd gotten into some SteamPunk music. It was fun, it was upbeat, and they were steampunk. What could be wrong with that. "If not - I've got it on mine." She offered her phone; Bobby was one of the probably too many people who knew her password. No, if she died tomorrow, people would be able to unlock her phone. Yes, she should care more about security, but really- it was her phone.. There were phone numbers and music on it only.

And yes, there was a playlist.

"So...Cerebro gave us the information the hit is a he, Stephen White. 14. Psychic. I can't imagine what is going on that caused it on Christmas Eve..." Frowning slightly, she verbalized, "I hope it's nothing horrible..." She'd had a few less than stellar incidents around the holidays. "But then, this late at night? It probably is...." Glancing at Bobby, she teased lightly, "At least they sent us..and no Santa jokes, okay? How do you want to handle this? Just walk up and ring the door bell? Try to investigate? I can distract the parents or responsible adults while you talk to Stephen?" She drove steadily, but a little above the speed limit. She was very comfortable driving; what she was not comfortable with was a mutant, out there, alone and scared.

Bobby looked down at his shorts, then back at Kitty, and then back to his shorts. "What do you mean, 'be taken seriously'" Bobby joked, while his taste in attire did leave room for people to question his sanity, Bobby liked to think that when he wanted to be he could be quite the sharp dresser. "They need to know there are going to be some cool teachers at this new place. It'll be fine. Trust me." He flashed Kitty a grin as she set about covering the food.

"I got us Zombeavers. I thought that'd be funny." He grinned, it wasn't quite zombie strippers but it was still going to be terrible nonetheless, "And yes I'm still in these clothes. When you become old enough to be my mother you can dress me how you want." And that was that, though the Iceman didn't argue against Kitty being able to pick the tunes that they were going to be listening to as she was the one that was going to be doing all the driving.

"Nope, I don't have no Abney Park." Which of course, Kitty countered by offering up her own phone which happened to be full of the type of music that Kitty really wanted to have on for the journey.

Typing in Kitty's password, Bobby quickly brought up the playlist and set it to play, turning up the volume so it was loud enough for them to hear it, while not being so loud that they couldn't talk.

"Oh, family Christmas' how I don't miss them." No matter how much he missed his family, he didn't miss the drama that often came with holidays, perhaps at some point, he should really call his parents and speak to them. It had been so long since he'd spoken to them, and even longer since he'd seen them face to face, still there was a lot of history that lay between them and Bobby wasn't sure he wanted to drag it all up again.

"We walk up and do the talk, you handle the adults, I'll handle the kid." Bobby agreed with her, she was most definitely better placed to be dealing with responsible and possibly fearful adults than he was, "If they agree we bring him back with us and we get him settled in. If not then we'll play it by ear." This was Christmas Eve after all, and there was room for this night to go down all manner of ways.

"I'll keep the Santa and ice jokes to a minimum, I promise." Kitty was focused on driving and Bobby kept glancing out of the windows at what little he could see. "Did Cerebro say anything more about the kid's powers exactly?" A psychic was one thing, but there was all manner of powers that came with being a psychic.

Kitty just had to shake her head at her BFF. He was quite the clown, but she knew it was,
for the most part, an act. He was one of the smarter people she knew, and could dress sharply if he wanted to. Apparently, today was not one of those days. As he quipped another joke,
she just shooed him away. There was no point in trying to argue; Bobby would be Bobby and they needed to get going.

Her groan at the mention of the movie, however, was loud and obvious. "Are you serious?" Sheesh...if you're going to get something with Zombies, you could at least get Romero..." Still, she was laughing, so why not, right? ZombieBeavers...it would at least distract her from the fact that she should be with her Dad right now - but she wasn't... She did shoot back, however, "You don't want me as your Mother....I don't need to be called Jocasta..." And with that, they were off.

There were precious few things that were sacred between Kitty and Bobby. He even had some of her computer passwords - just in case. There was nothing quite like having someone pass on and have to deactivate all their social media. While she didn't have any porn on her computer, Bobby could be considered the equivalent of her "Porn Buddy..." Of course, she didn't want to know if HE had any....

Glancing over at him in the dark car, she reached over and squeezed his hand. "When's the last time you called them?" She knew that he didn't have the...best...relationship with his family, but family was family. She knew, better than most, how big of a hole their loss caused when they weren't in your life. She paused, glancing over at him just briefly, before adding, "You want to go see them again...you know I'll come with you, right? I've got your back...always...." Her voice had gotten more serious as she made the offer. How could it not? She was still processing the loss of her own father.

The mission itself, though, wasn't too bad. She had to snort. "Of course..." He wanted to handle the kid and she got the adults. That was about right..Kitty was even enough to speak with the adults, tell them everything they wanted to hear, while Bobby teased the kid into being not so freaked out.

"Yeah, the whole Christmas Eve thing will make it awkward. Maybe we'll get lucky, and they'll be Pagan? Celebrate Yule? Or Jewish?" Her smile was wide. She paused before nodding, "But yeah, we play that part by ear." She just wish she knew more. There was so many unknowns in this particular situation.

Shaking her head, she said, "No, he didn't." The frustration was obvious. "I wish we had something to go on. I mean, did he start hearing voices? or illusions, or something. We haven't had any news reports of people running while, and I'm going to choose to believe that if he was a telepath, Scott might have tagged Emma..." After all, she didn't have a family either.... Yup, still not a fan of her.

Wrinkling her nose, she teased Bobby, "Just keep thoughts of all your girlfriends out of your head, and you should be okay...."

And with that, the plan was in play, and there was nothing less to do but drive. A drive that was filled with reminiscing trouble they'd gotten into, of Christmas's past, of good natured teasing and commentary on movies and music. With the pair together, the time seemed a lot shorter than it was before they were driving up to a model of middle class suburbia.

The house was a split level. There were two cars in the drive way and lights on the outside of the house. Kitty joked, "Well, I guess we know they celebrate Christmas...." She parked, and waited for Bobby before heading towards the front door. "I know...I get the adults, you get the kid...and remember...don't scare him off..." Oh, she had no worry how Bobby would ask. He was really one of the best people to deal with, when dealing with kids.

What was disconcerting was the fact that the door was slightly ajar, and the house lights were still on. Frowning slightly, Kitty said, "Well...this isn't good...." Pushing the door open, she called out, "Hello! Merry Christmas....." She glanced back at Bobby, shrugging. In for a penny, in for a pound!

"My name is Kitty, and I'm here to talk...."

It was when she stepped fully into the house that she felt the floor tilt and something creep across her mind. Instinctively, she reached out for Bobby, "Watch...." The warning was incomplete, as Kitty fell under the psychic's control.

"What's wrong with some undead big teethed rodents chowing down on some unsuspecting college students?" It sounded like an awesome movie idea and one Bobby would quite happily bankroll, well if he had the sorts of funds to help make movies, which he didn't, so instead he helped the moviemakers out by buying their movies on DVD instead.

Kitty reached across and squeezed his hand, Bobby didn't like talking about his family situation, though there was no hiding anything from Kitty. "Springtime maybe? Honestly, I don't remember." There was a little guilt in his voice, "I know you will, and I appreciate it." Perhaps Kitty was onto something, about going home, though it was hard to want to go back to the town that tried to turn you into a public execution because you were a mutant. "But it's the holidays so let's not focus on the dull stuff like family ok?" And like a flip of the switch, Bobby was back to the upbeat version of himself and not the overly serious Bobby that he was at risk of becoming as they focused upon all this Debbie downer talk.

"Could make constructs I guess," Bobby mused as they tried to figure out what sort of powers they had, "You'd think they'd let up on the ol' telepaths, we've got loads of them. Don't need any more kids who have the power to scoop out all our dirty secrets and air them to everyone." Not that any of them had ever actually tried to do that to Bobby yet, but he was pretty sure that it was only a matter of time until they did.

"Don't worry I'll keep all thoughts PG13." Bobby grinned at Kitty, despite the location being over an hour away, it didn't feel like the journey had been all that long. It wasn't the first time they'd been on a road trip together, and it wasn't going to be the last time that they were going to be on one and they had enough to talk about to stop the trip from feeling like a drag.

"Wow, and you said my clothing choices were bad." He looked across at Kitty with an incredibly pointed look. "Ladies first," Bobby gestured and Kitty went forwards though instantly things were starting to take a turn south as Kitty pushed the door open. "Kitty eyes open," Bobby wasn't trying to be preachy, but he wanted to make sure that she didn't get hurt by what they might find in here. At the same time, Bobby's fists began to cool and an icy layer formed over them.

Kitty started to say something, but before Bobby could react, he too fell under whatever was happening inside of the house. Almost immediately the whole scene around them changed. No longer were they walking into a house, but they were back at the school, Christmas dinner had just been eaten, they'd opened their presents and everyone was currently basking in the post-feast afterglow.

"Heyyy you." Bobby slid up next to Kitty, he was wearing some garish Christmas jumper that he'd bought himself for Christmas. "Like what Santa brought you this year?" Yes, Kitty was Jewish, but that didn't mean they couldn't get presents like everyone else at Christmas.

Kitty turned from where she'd been talking with some students to grin and kiss Bobby lightly on the lips. "Of course! Who wouldn't love presents..." Sliding her arms around his neck, she nuzzled the side of his face, murmuring in his ear, "But I'm looking forward to, most, is time with you later on...." The words were meant at face value; she loved spending time with her boyfriend, and they were going to spent Christmas Eve together, later on.

"Look what my Dad sent me!" She held up a thin gold bracelet. It was simple, yet pretty and very much like the person wearing it. "He texted me while Rachel was opening her presents. He's going to try and come to New York in January to see me....We'll have to take him to dinner somewhere... That is, if you can be torn away from your work..." Words were light, tones teasing as she shifted to merely having an arm around his waist.

This Kitten was happy. Things were great between her and Bobby, the mansion was doing well, and she was going to start teaching in January! Her Dad was actually coming to visit - something he never would have done before his health scare this fall, and her Mom seemed to be in good spirits too. Now if only she could get Bobby to NOT wear such an outift; the outfit, she had to admit, was all Bobby, thought.

"You DO know you look ridiculous, right? " She was still smiling good naturedly as she laced her fingers with his and pulled him over to the couch. "I mean..no one expects different, and only you could pull off that look, but..." Once again, she kissed him lightly, really, really happy. Finishing her Masters that fall had been a challenge, but her Dad's health scare had reminded her of what mattered in life - and had made her decision to return to the mansion easy. It had let her rejoin the X-Men, but more importantly, be with the people she loved the most...

"Oh, it's very pretty." Bobby smiled at her, "I'm pretty sure I can be torn away from my work for long enough for dinner with your dad," Bobby was very much a workaholic, however as the saying went all work and no play makes Bobby a dull boy. "Just let me know when and where and I will be there," Bobby's arms found their way around Kitty, "Do you know how long he's staying for yet?"

Bobby's face looked hurt as she poked at his choice in wardrobe. "I look epic, and I won't have a word said otherwise." Bobby looked down at his Christmassy jumper, "You're just jealous that I opted to not get you one of your own." He teased, "I can always take this one off if you want and give it to you? I've got a tee on underneath, and it's suitably Christmassy enough to not worry about taking my jumper off." Bobby grinned as he stepped back a bit as he got ready to take the shirt off.

Suddenly from outside of the school, there was a loud scream. No sooner had it started the scream was gone.

Bobby shot a look towards Kitty, "You think the tweens are testing their powers?" Bobby's brow raised a little, as another scream filled the air. Bobby's eyes shot towards the others in the room. "You guys stay here, we'll check it out." Bobby pulled away from Kitty, "come on, it'll only take a minute." Bobby pulled away from the festivities and went out into the hallway.

The main entrance to the school was wide open and the snow that was falling outside was already beginning to filter into the entrance hall. Bobby didn't think of going outside without anything to keep him warm, as he was immune to the cold, which did stop him thinking about the others that needed to keep themselves warm.

"Late night snowball fight maybe? Though a scream like that... it was one of genuine fear and Bobby suddenly worried about just who might be making their way onto school property in the holidays.

This was perfection. She was with the man she loved, with the people she loved - and he was (as always) making her laugh.

She didn't trust the perfection.

Snuggling up against him, she grinned. "Oh, good. Daddy actually liked you. Don't take his teasing as anything besides teasing. After all, I'm his only daughter...." The idea of dinner with Bobby and Dad made her remarkably happy. "I will...how do you feel about Italian? food? Daddy really loves it, and I thought we could meet at that one place in the city...I mean, I suppose I could cook too, but...this way, we have a way out, if wanted..." Pressing back into Bobby, she tilted her head back and smiled fondly. "It sounds like only a weekend. So, he'd fly in on Friday, leave Sunday...figure dinner with you on Saturday..."

She had to laugh, "And when we go, please, pretty please and I'll make it worth your while, can you NOT wear your standard board shorts? It is going to January..." As for the jumper, "I'm...fine...with not having one of those...maybe...for Valentine's Day...." She did find him adorable in the romper, not that she would say that too loudly...

Standing on tip toes, she teased into his ear, "Isn't that later? Taking off the sweater off?" And, of course, he threatened to take it off right here, right now. She laughed even harder. "No no no...Rachel doesn't need to see that! Think of the children!!!!" Her eyes were starting to tear up, she was laughing so hard.

And then there was the scream/

"You think the tweens are testing their powers?"

"I....that didn't sound like a powers check...that sounded..." She shivered a little. Something was wrong...something was not right about all of this - but she couldn't put her finger on it. She was scared, and her hand sough Bobby's.

"You guys stay here, we'll check it out."

She nodded and pulled away with him, a worried frown on her face. "This doesn't feel right, Bob..." It didn't stop her from following though, grabbing a sword from the holder on the wall. It was a Katana, and it made her feel slightly better. The door wide open? "Gah...this reminds me of one of your horrible horror movies....WHY do the woman always walk TOWARDS the ominious door?!" Of course, she was walking towards the ominous door.

"Late night snowball fight maybe? [/i]

Kitty shrugged. "Maybe. I don't think so, but maybe. We need to check it out..." She phased into her costume, which gave her some additional warmth. "Worse case? we catch some kids being dumb." Well, that wasn't true. Worse case? Something BAD was on the grounds. "Close the door, Ice the lock. You can break it later..but it will keep people inside safe..." She looked around. There wasn't any sign of blood, or any other indication that something had gotten in so out it was...

"After you, love..."

"Oh you know I was surprised he didn't come after me with a gun or something..." Bobby was always Bobby, it wasn't the first time that a parent had reacted that way to him, though it was perhaps the last since IceCat, or Shadowman, as they had been dubbed, had been together for quite some time and Bobby certainly didn't have eyes for anyone else at the moment. "Dinner out sounds good. There are lots of new places that I've heard about that we can go to if you're up for trying one of them."

Kitty pleaded with him to actually wear something proper for once over the standard fare of boardshorts and bad jumpers, "I suppose I can be persuaded to dress a little smarter. Though I make no promises," He teased as he spoke, "My wardrobe has a mind of its own, and what comes out is anyone's guess." Though if Kitty wanted him to dress a little smarter, then he supposed he could make a bit of an effort, especially as it was Kitty's dad.

Bobby loved seeing Kitty laugh, it made his day when he saw her laugh, but then as much as they were having a good time there was always something to put a stop to it and this time there was a scream. Kitty and Bobby had quickly left and they were moving away to deal with it. "Because it's poor scripting. You know it's always the dudes that get killed by the monster first anyway?" He gave Kitty a look.

Within a couple of moments, Kitty had phased into her uniform and Bobby had shifted into his ice form, "Good idea," He said as they moved outside, once they were both outside Bobby shut the door and held a finger over the lock, causing ice to form over and in the lock stopping anyone from being able to get in and out of the front door.

"I can anything that's living against the cold," Bobby tapped his eyes, thankfully thermal vision was one of his things, not that people tended to remember it. Looking out across the darkness, "There's something over there," Bobby pointed into the darkness and well away from the lights of the school. "Ready to get going?" Whatever this thermal signature was it was getting further and further away from them and pretty quickly too.

Their banter was easy, joking about Bobby meeting her Dad - but all that came to a halt as they found the door open. All that came to a halt as they both echoed their concerns that something was amiss. All that came to a halt when they shifted into their "work" uniforms.

"Well, if you end up dead, I'm going to find a mutant who can raise the dead to kill you...okay? Because losing your boyfriend at Christmas? Worse cliche' ever...' There was something about that statement, something more than losing a person she loved, that turned her stomach and made her want to puke. No, she was going to push the thought of losing Bobby out of her mind, and deal with the situation at hand.

Once the inside were inside, the pair turned their eyes towards the outside. Kitty phased so the wind didn't bother her as much. She'd mastered the art of phasing enough of her to speak, which keeping the rest intangible. Sure, becoming a ghost might seem like a lame power, but...

Plus, she had her sword.

She nodded and headed towards where Bobby directed. She moved silently, one part product of her training, one part product that she was a ghost. The snow didn't make things any easier, and she felt herself get jumpier and jumpier as they moved farther away from the mansion. There was a rustling in the trees and she glanced over to make sure Bobby heard it too - but that was when the snow started from the pristine white, to a light pink and culminating in the mangled corpse.

Amy.

Amy was a new student; she was quiet, and didn't have family - which made Kitty all the more determined to be her family. She wouldn't need to, apparently, do that any more.

Amy's face was twisted in a grimace of fear and pain; her eyes were frozen open, and her fingers had blood. The snow around her was melting; her body was still warm, and the blood oozing from her entrails melted the snow into little rivers of red. The moonlight glistened off of her wet intestines. They looked like they'd been eaten by something, but what wasn't easily evidence.

Kitty blanched, breathing out her name, "Amy...." A ghostly hand covered her mouth as her wide eyes took everything in. Looking at Bobby, she asked, "What could have done such a thing....." After all, most animals would run away before they attacked - save a bear, and she couldn't see the quiet, gentle Amy facing off against a bear....

The pair were moving further, and further from the mansion, and what Bobby had seen as a source of heat was rapidly cooling down; the fact that the snow was turning from pristine white to off pink was more disconcerting, Bobby had watched enough terrible movies to know what that meant. Unfortunately, the pair were on top of the body quicker than Bobby could hope. If he had not been in his ice form then there was a good chance that he would have thrown up.

"Shit." Bobby spoke as he looked around, there certainly wasn't any signs of heat out here, and she hadn't been dead for that long, "teleporter?" Bobby looked at Kitty, looking around, but the snow had all sorts of tracks in it which meant that the chances were that whoever, or whatever did this just moved hell of a lot faster than the average person.

Suddenly out of nowhere, three large rodents lept at Kitty, they didn't register on Bobby's thermal sight because they were dead, each of them was in varying states of decay ranging from one that looked like it had died only days ago to one where the innards were showing and with huge clumps of fur was missing.

"Holy shit!" Bobby fell backwards as the zombieavers began their assault, "What the fuck are they?" Bobby's continued noise drew their attention and two charged at Bobby with gross undead teeth gnashing away as the third leapt for Kitty's jugular.

Bobby reacted in the way that any X-Man would, he used his powers, and froze the first of the zombieavers before they could get to him, the second though, it's teeth got past Bobby's defenses and sank into his ice arm causing a hole to form in the ice and cracks to appear around it. "That was my favourite arm too!" Bobby yelled as he shook his arm trying to dislodge the beast.

As they fought, the sounds of the fighting lured more zombieavers towards them with another five appearing at the edge of their vision.

Kitty was on edge, but she was still an X-Man - so when she found the bodies? She looked at it through the lens of science, not through the lens of anything else. She knew Bobby was squeamish though (something she thought hysterical considering he loved horror movies), so she tried to shield as much as possible.

Shaking her head, she said, "No...this is...ripping damage. Not something I've seen teleporters....." Before she could get anything else out, zombies - zombeavers to be more exact - came charging out of the brush. Kitty, startled, acted on instinct and phased. That meant that the one who was trying to eat her missed - and headed for the live one...Bobby. Of course, he wasn't warm enough to register, so that was interesting...

Shaking her head, she answered, "I don't know...I'd say rabid rodents, but...ROUSes? " The Princess Bride was a movie she made Bobby watch. He hadn't minded too much, but it further showed he liked the campy horror, and Kitty was a die hard romantic... "They're unnatural, that's for sure...and I'm guessing, what ate Amy..."

And they seemed very interested in eating Bobby. That, she thought, was her job....

Though not like that...exactly...Anyway..

Her sword in hand, she sliced the remaining zombie in half. "Okay..that was way too easy...the teeth get through?" She moved to a more defensible position, at Bobby's back.

Unfortunately, that was when the other five zombievers crawled out of the surroundings. "Shit." Kitty rarely cursed; it was one of her more endearing parts. But this seemed like a curse worthy situation. Six undead rodents, and while she was fairly certain they could take them out, this whole thing just felt wrong. There was something about this situation (Besides the obvious undead. beavers.) that wasn't write. She loved Bobby; but this seemed too perfect. Christmas was lovely, but there was a hole in her heart.... This was all....wrong.

"Hey....make a ring of ice...a wall. They shouldn't be able to jump it. I'm going to get a higher view, see what I can see...this is ridiculous...even for our lives...." She brushed her lips against his ice cheek, light enough so as to not reinact A Christmas Story. And then she started air walking up...

Between the pair of them, they managed to make short work of the first few Zombies, though Bobby's ice form took a few hits. "Nothing I can't come back from," He held his hand over the hole in his arm and quickly the water vapour in the air cooled and the filled the hole, hopefully when he shifted back into human form there would be no zombie breakout from these creatures! Kitty kissed his cheek and began to float up into the air to see what they had to look forward to.

As instructed, Bobby quickly began to shape ice and snow, like The Wall from Game of Thrones, this was thick and tall, tall enough to keep any creatures out and think enough from them being able to break through. "What do you see?" Bobby called up to her, they had fought many things in their time as X-Men, but true zombies? Well, this was new to them... "You think there's someone making these things out there?" Bobby had to shout to get himself heard.

Outside of the walls, the Zombeaverswere throwing themselves against the ice and snow, their clawed paws trying to find someplace to grip in the ice to get at the food source that had hidden behind an obstacle that they couldn't overcome.

Once Kitty was high enough to look, she would see that they were now surrounded by tens of hungry and undead beavers, more were coming out the trees and they were scrambling over one another to try and get up and over the ice wall, and some had even turned away from the ice and been beginning to move towards the school.

Once the wall was built, and Kitty was getting a better view of what was going on around them, Bobby turned to his own protection, supercooling his ice form, layers of ice quickly formed over his body which he shaped into armoured plates, spikes and a giant ice first that would hopefully help smash any of the creatures should they get through their defences.

"Ok we're all set down here, what do you think our play should be?" Bobby was quietly confident that he was immune to whatever disease these creatures were carrying while he stayed in his ice form, but Kitty? While she could phase, one stray bite and that would be it and Bobby wasn't prepared to risk his girlfriend like that.

"I can draw them off if you want, give you a chance to get back to the school and warn the others?" It was a sound plan except for one important horror movie rule: do not split up.

This was just....outside her understanding - and this from a young woman who'd ended up in a pirate ship with bamfs! Frowning, she glanced over at Bobby to make sure that it wasn't his bravado speaking - that he really was okay. She could phase; she wasn't worried about being hurt. Bobby on the other hand? She didn't know what she'd do if something happened to Bobby. Her stomach clenched just thinking about it.

But they had a job to do.

She floated up as Bobby built his wall. It reminded her of the wall from Game of Thrones. When he called up, Kitty looked around - really looked around. "There are....a lot....like....maybe a hundred of them..and they keep coming! " Yes, Kitty was worried. This didn't feel right on so many levels.

"If someone was...' She shook her head again. Phased up in the air, this all just seemed like a bad dream. Zombie beavers. Swarming Zombieavers. No notice, no alarms going off, nothing. It was almost as if they were in some sort of dream state, or something...

Her head started pounding in pain.

There were some heading towards the school.

God her head hurt.

Floating down, she solidified, holding her head with the pain, only to find the pain subside. She frowned, "That's weird. While I was up there, my head started killing me...a real doozy of a migraine....but once I..." She trailed off, frowning. When she was phased, telepaths had a harder time slipping into her brain.

Kitty went back to back with Bobby, trying to pull at whatever string was niggling at the corner of her brain. She needed to think. think. think.

"Wait a second...there's something not...right." Pausing, she did address the one thing, "Haven't you always told me - in horror movies, you never ever split the party. All we have to do is think loud enough and Jean'll hear..." She thought in her head, in all caps. "JEAN. ZOMBIES AS BEAVERS HEADING YOUR WAY..." What was odd, though? No reply.

This wasn't adding up.

"Hey, love? What movie were you going to show me tonight?'

Kitty and Bobby always spent Christmas night together, and they always watched a movie....mostly horror, for that was Bobby's favorite, and they both liked any excuse Kitty got to cuddle with her boyfriend.
